Despite its prevalence and far-reaching impacts on women’s physical and psychological health, menopause remains largely neglected in healthcare policy, resulting in inadequate support and information for women.

A significant barrier to the creation of menopause policy development is the lack of awareness and education about menopause among women, healthcare providers, and employers. Gaps in knowledge regarding menopausal symptoms lead to misconceptions and stigmatization and may even prevent women from seeking help while experiencing symptoms.

Around 25 million women globally pass through menopause each year. As European and global populations continue to age, it is estimated that by 2030, the world population of menopausal and postmenopausal women will increase to 1.2 billion, with 47 million new entrants yearly.

In addition, menopausal women constitute the fastest growing group in the workforce, currently accounting for 11% of the G7 workforce alone; this percentage is expected to increase in the coming years as world populations age. It is imperative to acknowledge the unique needs faced by menopausal women and develop comprehensive policies to address them.

AIPFE is a passionate advocate of menopause awareness and aims to empower women through information and knowledge, enabling them to continue living fulfilling lives - both at home and in the workplace. We want to:

  1. Give menopause a more powerful presence and shift from taboo to table talk.
Empower Women to educate themselves on the menopause and the impact it can have on them, to speak candidly and shamelessly about their symptoms, to challenge their doctors with questions around the menopause and treatment options.

  2. Give Menopause a prominent seat in Government health policy.
Add menopause as a fundamental strand under Women’s Health, and make policy recommendations for adjustments in the workplace.

  3. Push for more varied treatment options.
The treatment options available in Cyprus are very limited, often leaving many women without access to the hormone treatments that will work best for them. We want our Government to widen the options and availability of hormone treatment to help the women who need them, continue to live fulfilling lives.

As part of our ongoing efforts to raise awareness about Menopause, we have organised a variety of events for our members:
